Hello! I’m Jane, one of the Speech and Language Therapists at Talking Toolbox. I have worked with children in a variety of roles for over 25 years as a Teacher, Mentor and Advocate. I re-trained to qualify as a Speech and Language Therapist at the University of Manchester in 2019 and I have since worked in 3 different NHS Trusts. Each of my roles has included both Community Clinic covering the full range of speech, language and communication difficulties alongside working with children with complex communication needs within SEND schools.
As a SLT I have worked across all age ranges including pre-school, Primary, Secondary, College and HE college both in my clinic role and within my SEND role. I am passionate about my work with SEND children and young people whether this is working with young children and their parents /carers at the early stages of communication or with older children to support them to develop the skills and strategies they need to communicate to the best of their ability. I am a strong advocate of the importance of the ‘Total Communication’ approach and continue to attend training and professional development opportunities to enhance my skills in Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC.)
In my spare time you will usually find me at home with my family or in the Lakes on my paddle board. I am also an avid reader, but not when on the paddle board!
