If you are worried that your toddler is not using or understanding language as expected, Talking Toolbox can help you decide what to do next. We support young children through play-based assessment, practical parent strategies and evidence-based programmes when suitable.
There can be many reasons why communication develops differently. We do not assume a cause from a brief enquiry; an individual assessment considers the child's strengths, needs and wider development.
Discuss your toddler's communicationYou receive a full written report with personalised advice and recommendations at no additional cost.
Much of early-language support happens in ordinary routines. We show families practical ways to create communication opportunities during play, books, meals and daily activities without turning home life into a test.
Where appropriate, we may recommend the Hanen It Takes Two to Talk® programme. For an autistic child or a child with social communication differences, online PACT may be considered instead. Suitability is always discussed individually.
Assessments are available at our purpose-built paediatric clinic in Windle, St Helens. Home and nursery visits can also be arranged when required, subject to location and availability.
See our North West areas page for more information.
You do not need to wait until a concern feels severe. If you are unsure about your child's understanding, talking or interaction, contact us for a free conversation. We will explain whether an assessment is appropriate or point you towards another useful route.
